The Story Behind the Ministry

From a Renovation Project to a Calling

Scott Petrarca — Founder

My name is Scott Petrarca. During Covid, my life changed. I gave my life to Christ and shortly after began attending Forward Church in Myrtle Beach.

As the church grew, we signed a lease on the old bingo hall. It was a massive undertaking. The pastor asked if anyone would be willing to lead the renovation project.

I knew I had construction experience. I knew I had the skillset. And I felt the Lord nudging me to step forward.

That wasn't an option.

So in August of 2021, with very little certainty but a lot of faith, we started the project ourselves.

For 15 months, I showed up every free night and every free day I had.

We faced delays.

Workers didn't show up.

We failed inspections.

There was stress, pressure, and moments where quitting would have been easier.

But I stayed obedient.

$90K

What should have cost a quarter of a million dollars was done through stewardship, faith, and perseverance.

That season changed me.

It taught me how to lead under pressure. It taught me how to steward resources. It taught me what happens when faith turns into action.

And I realized something:

The same skills God gave me to build a church building can be used to serve people in this community.

That's why I started Builders in Faith.

Not to build structures. But to build hope.

To show up for people who need a hand. To live out the Gospel in a practical way.
